John Mulinge

John Mulinge - 20 Year Old

Birthday: 5th of April 1999

John is twenty years old and lives with his mother and four siblings in the Soweto slums in Kahawa, Nairobi. The mother tries to sell a few groceries at a market nearby, but the big part of the family budget is carried by his big sister through the cleaning of train platforms. It has been particularly devastating for a year now since his mother fell into a deep depression. When the mother became seriously ill last year and there was no money for the examination, the Soweto Youth Initiative launched a fundraising and was able to bring her into contact with the doctors. Since then she has not been healthy again and can hardly cope with her life in the slums. John's father died
because of cancer in 2013. His big dream is to become a mechanical engineer one day, because he was passionate about fixing cars even when he was a little boy. John loves to play soccer with his friends and to help his mother. John finished elementary school in 2015 and switched to secondary school a year later. Unfortunately, due to his mother's depression, he was unable to attend school for two semesters, and missed a lot at school. He is now in the final year and is now even more worried about his graduation because his mother cannot pay the school fees.

John's sponsorship would be a one-time payment of $ 50. This will enable him to finish his last year of secondary school.
